a little catch up.
friday september 7 i did go into boise and run with jason. we did 5.5 miles on the greenbelt.
saturday (9/8) we spent the whole day (minus kids naps) replacing fence posts and pulling 13 lawn and leaf bags of weeds at our rental.
sunday (9/9) we did 5 miles on the nampa greenbelt.
monday (9/10) i walked 1 mile on an incline on the treadmill
tuesday (9/11) i walked 2 miles on the treadmill (just trying to get it in.)
wednesday (9/12) i weighed 169 pounds.
thursday (9/13) i drove in to boise to run with jason. we did 4.75 on the greenbelt trail at 11:30 pace, our best so far. finished it up walking back to his office for 5 total.
sunday (9/16) we had 9 planned on a new trail in nampa, but a mile and a half in i knew i hadnt had enough water to drink all day and it wasnt going to happen. we scaled back and did 5 instead (after a potty break at jesses house.) the 9 are still on the schedule, tentatively for thursday in boise.
i have been reading in jeremiah for the last couple months. and this week i started beth moores daniel biblestudy. God really planned that out for me. ive been reading about the babylonians coming to capture the city for more than 40 chapters and in the first 2 verses of daniel it happens.
also, on saturday i had the chance to take part in the simulcast. i was one of the moms with kids at my feet, in my jammies singing along. for the first couple hours anyways. jason and i tag teamed the day to make it work. he watched the kids while he mowed the lawn, then i had them for lunch and naps, then he brough back 3 kids from boise for a friend and had all 5 for the next two hours. then i took a longer break and helped out for another hour. then i finished up the last session and came down to make dinner. there were moments that were so hard just having all the kids around and trying to focus on what i was learning, but it was also so so good. i am glad we were able to make it work.
so thats where im at right now. ive settled one of the issues i had plaguing me last week, and today i will work some more on another. at nap time i will sit down to finish my bible study homework. thats the plan for today.

168.
i have spent a lot of time this week feeling off. i tried reading, walking, eating, quiet time, a hot bath, and still couldnt get a handle on it. i told jason there are just too many things buzzing around in my head and i cant get any of them to hold still so i can focus on it to take care it if. its exhausting.
thats my explanation to today being friday and finally posting for wednesday. its just the way its been this week.
last wendesday, the 29th i walked 4.25 miles and did 15 minutes of weight training after i posted.
sunday september 2, jason pushed the kids and we ran out to the lake and back. a 7 mile loop with a good 2 mile climb. (we are sticking to our sunday runs. this one was right after church instead of waiting for the evening. im not sure yet which i prefer.)
wednesday the 5th i weigh 168 pounds (again. still.) my new number i suppose. i swing between frustrated that i cant seem to break it, and pretty content that my body isnt swinging several pounds up and down all the time. i walked 1.5 miles while reading the secret life of bees (jason had the kids at church) in an attempt to get out of my funk. it didnt work.
thursday the 6th, in the late afternoon, i took the kids for a 3 mile run/walk. coming back the end of the second mile my calf balled up. i clearly remember that pain from more than a year ago and dont like to mess with it, so i walked most of the last mile with short running breaks.
and that brings me to today. i plan to take the kids in to boise tonight to go 5 miles with jason before dinner. his day isnt panning out like he though, so im not sure what time that will actually be, but i always like a run on the boise greenbelt, so it should be good.
and today i am feeling a little better. i cornered a couple of those buzzing issues and tried to get them organized. one of them i have no control over and no idea what is going on at the other end, and thats what the real struggle is. i like to stay informed. i am having a hard time resting in today and trusting God with tomorrows struggles, when tomorrows struggles affect the choices i make today. its been rough.
i was given a little gift yesterday though, a compliment on the way emma and georgie were acting. i hear ashleys voice in my head telling me "this is your pay check." thats what im working for, training my kids to be kind adults, and when someone notices its working, thats my compensation. it was good reinforcement and encouragement for me.

Romans 12
wow. romans chapter 12 might be my new favorite passage of scripture. i started out ready to share just verses 1 and 2, but as i continued to read theres just so much more! so here are the first couple, and a link to go read the rest of the chapter.
Romans 12:1-2

And so, dear brothers and sisters,
I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done
for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find
acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t
copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you
into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to
know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
thats just what i needed this morning. its one of the verses that changed the way i think about my body nearly two years ago and it still hits tender spots in my heart.
also, ive been looking for a memory verse for emma, and i found it.

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
i think thats what she needs to hear right now. :)
last night i kept the kids up so jason and i could take them for a run. he was late getting home because hed run an errand for me, so the kids and i took off without him and made him catch up. we ran 3 and walked a 4th so he could hit all 5 points for the day. its going to be tough but he can still hit 1500 for the year if he has 5 points almost every day.
it was a good day yesterday.

stay the course.
june 5, 2.88 miles (a trip to walmart and back for jasons rx and some apples. and tape! i remembered the tape!) at a 10 minute pace!
i was nervous this morning about my weight. ive seen it bounce back and forth all week, and while i know that can happen at the beginning its still frustrating. but- last week i weighed 173.4 pounds, and this morning i weigh 172. a loss of 1.4 pounds. that is just fine! im looking forward to the next few weeks as i see significant change.
i finished off acts a couple of days ago. the middle of that book was a bit hard. i dont really understand the significance or have interest in pauls travels back and forth. i did really enjoy the ship wreck though. so many things would be different if he hadnt asked for audience with caesar. it was really interesting. since then ive moved onto to romans (because its what pastor is preaching on now) and boy does it have a tough start. paul gave some meaty words to the church in rome, and ive had to take my time to get through it. ive enjoyed it, but its not what i expected either.

James, Mercy Triumphs, Beth Moore
this is the study we are doing at church right now. ive always been fond of james blunt writings. i know its early church context, but it feels easily applicable now. that appeals to me. beth digs when she teaches bible study, and gives home work. one of the questions asked last week was in the context of paul and james. they were called to bring the gospel to what seemed to be opposite ends of the world, james to the jews and paul to the gentiles. they had different views about the jewish law and how it ought to be kept (see acts 15) and the teachings focused in different areas. with that in mind, how do you think they got along? how do we get along with believers that dont share our every opinion? do we think the work of God is only accomplished when we are working with people who see it our way? we have all fallen and failed, we are all graced and forgiven.
i can think of several friends who belong to different denominations than i do, and who believe different details. it came up the night before i did this homework assignment in conversation with jason even. he and a coworker who is also a good friend were out on a run and talking about revelation and the rapture. his friend believes strongly that a pre-tribulation rapture ought to be taught even though we dont have scripture that tells us any detail about the rapture. his reasons are good too- no excuses from people who want to wait to change their hearts and lives until they "see it coming" from all the end times signs. its a good point, but i disagree. i think we ought to teach what the bible tells us and leave it at that. i think there is evidence that we may be called up before things get really rough here on earth, but im also not sure that we would really be aware that end times events were happening. our human nature is weak. we are so caught up in our own lives, even when those lives are serving God, that i think its possible we may overlook the larger significance of the destruction and plauges and distress that is prophesied. we give little thought to these things now, so i wouldnt be surprised if we miss the big ones later.
but thats not my point. my point is, jasons coworker and i dont see eye to eye. but i am SO thankful for him as a man of God to come alongside my husband in his day to day life and offer fellowship, accountability, and support through prayer. he is a precious jewel to me because of his heart for God. we do not have to agree on every point in our theology in order to function as a larger body of Christ. we do to need agree that our salvation comes from Him and not of our own doing, and have a yearning for the truth of the scripture and God will provide the rest. (matthew 7:7-8, james 1:5)
my insecurities wants to clarify all the above saying i hope its clear enough, or makes sense, or im sure many others could have said it better, but my homework from last week taught me comparisons like that are not a good use of my time and instead i ought to simply live my life in the spirit and do my part "in love and humility, variety and diversity." (mercy triumphs pg30)

the end and the beginning
to wrap up the year nicely, jason stayed home with the kids so that i could spend some last day of the year time at the gym. i did 4o minutes and 3.75 miles on the elliptical while reading grandpas book. i wish grandma had finished it before he died, because there are several things id like to ask him about. but, maybe thats why it wasnt. but that is a whole different story.
and now, its 2012. i smooched jason and we said our happy januarys to one another at 12 while the neighbors lit fireworks. i was determined that this year would have a good start, and i think so was he, we both made time at the gym during naps. i did 40 minutes, 3.75 miles (almost finished with the book now) and he did a mini tri to get in all 5 possible points for today. he came home in such a good mood, with a plan to use one rec center pass each weekend this month.
i make resolutions. i give up things for lent. i tell people about them, and i stay accountable. but, i tend to make then whenever the thought crosses my mind. works out well for me that i figured out a new plan just last week so that i can call it a new years' resolution. so here it is:
in this brand new year i have just a few goals and a calendar. i used to LOVE my calendar. i had a large desk calendar each year with all the important dates transferred from one to the next, appointments, classes, trips, everything. now my life is different and so is my calendar.
this one will have SCHEDULED workouts when i KNOW i will have time made for the gym. this will largely be made possible by jason working around the time i need, and using the day care for georgie while emma is at school (on days i dont have the boys) when i dont have another option.
also, meal planning and less grocery shopping. i tried it out last week, making a list of five or six meals that would provide leftovers and could be made from things i already had on hand, and i have SO enjoyed being able to just pick something off the list to make for the day. now, when i run out of things on the list, or a grocery staple like milk, flour, eggs, i will write a new list and go grocery shopping. im not sure how often i will need to go, because i dont know how long each list will take me. jason will sometimes be home for dinner, and sometimes be packing both lunch and dinner for school. i have a good start on frozen dinners for him after making two crock pot dinners of green enchilada soup and beef stew and because we ate just those two all week, i still have most of my list available.
im not sure that makes any sense at all. my point: i will make a list on the week end days of my large calendar of dinners. when i run out of dinners, i will begin a new list on the next available weekend day. i plan to grocery shop without children in the evenings or on the weekend. this should make evenings in our house much more manageable as i transition to single parenthood for 16 weeks. and once i have a spouse again, it will be nice to have an answer to "what are you making for dinner?"
and finally, i want to READ MORE books. i MISS reading. i havent made time for it, i havent purchased books, i just havent. but im going to. so, add to my list! what should i be reading?
good bye 2011, you were an interesting year. my first half marathon, my first time being sued, my first time wearing my red dickies since jason and i met 6 years and 2 children earlier. a whole year of healthy choices for our whole family.
2012, i have high expectations for you. you will be the last year jason is in school, and personally, i cant wait until youre over.

a warm day in november
this afternoon was beautiful. jason and i took the kids out for a three mile jog (13 minute pace) and enjoyed some sun and conversation while georgie petted emmas fuzzy hood and emma shredded fall leaves over the side of the stroller. the whole thing was really quite nice.
except the reality that this nice warm day in mid november is a complete anomaly and will probably never happen again as storms are headed our way to make this officially a cold winter. saturday evening i told jason i really needed to get to the gym, but i am hording that last pass for a day that i know im really going to need it. because i know its coming. so i think God provided some sunshine today (even though forcast called for snow overnight) so that we could get out together and i wouldnt have to spend that last pass. so thoughtful.
lesson learned though. last winter i really took advantage of the gym and used my pass. in conversation this weekend about the running we had done this week (jason 10+ miles, me 0) i found the words for the situation- the time i spent at the gym saved me from this cold, dry, depressing season of overeating and stress. i know now that i would not have been as successful loosing the extra weight if i had not formed a habit in july and continued at the gym all winter long. and i am so so glad that i did.
(its nice to look back at a situation and think hey, i made the RIGHT choice. look at that. its a much better feeling than looking back at the situation and wishing i could change it all to make something better. i think i need to keep that in mind going into this winter. and i think ill start by going to the gym tomorrow. that rec pass doesnt do me any good in my wallet.)

vulnerable
i have been postponing writing this for nearly a week. but, i knew time was coming to get it down after i had a long day to reflect yesterday and then this evening a good conversation with jason about it (while on a three mile run. but thats not the point ive been so twisted up about.) so, here it is.
i have been really struggling with feelings of insecurity, inadequacy, and overall feeling as if im letting every one down. i am not a people-pleaser, and im not sure i ever have been- but i have had a lot of issues related to feeling constantly down on myself, feeling as if i cant do anything right, as if i am not a good enough version of myself.
i have found minor situations creeping up in other areas of my life (an off hand comment turning into an upsetting night of dreams, minor physical insecurities leading to greater overall disapproval of myself) and ive decided not to let them take over my every thought. the solution: write them down to get them out of my head.

tomorrow begins with a confident hope, as a glorious inheritance, and without fear of the future.

i was reading in deuteronomy last night, more of moses rehashing everything he said in exodus to the isrealites. these first two verses stood out to me- i like when verses in the Bible say things like "remember this and keep it firmly in mind." seems like a pretty obvious one that i ought to pay attention to.
the others are from pastors message on sunday that was actually about God and government, but they fit so well here that i wrote them down.
Deuteronomy 4:39-40
“So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The Lord is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other. If you obey all the decrees and commands I am giving you today, all will be well with you and your children. I am giving you these instructions so you will enjoy a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”
Romans 8:28-29
And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
2 Corinthians 3:18
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

the race: summer breeze half marathon 13.1 miles
friday morning at 1130 we left the house to drive to california. we arrived at 10 pacific time and quickly went to bed. the race was at 8am saturday morning, and hour from home.
i was up at 520. ate a bowl of oatmeal and a banana for breakfast, gathered the kids and loaded up into the yukon to drive to the race. all we needed to do at the race was to pick up our timing chips and warm up (and get over our nerves.)
i felt good. i stretched out my legs and did a little warm up jog with katie, no pain the whole time. i was excited to get to run again, and to be able to at least start out with katie for the first couple miles.
i prayed for us in the coral before the gun, for a pain free run with quick times. and God answers prayer.
a couple miles into the race, katie i and were hanging out at a 10:15/10:30 pace and feeling great. the temperature was good, fog blocked the hot sun, just a light breeze instead of a nasty headwind, and my leg felt fine- like it was never injured.
the aid stations were so nice to have, especially the farthest one out that was more than three miles from the one before. and it had skittles. i love skittles, but i have never enjoyed them as much as i did at 6.5 miles on saturday. except maybe at 10.5 miles. they were pretty great then too.
at ten miles, i let katie go on ahead. i wanted to turn it down a little, but kept her in my sight through the finish.
i was tired, but in good spirits at ten miles. i knew i could keep running. near 13 jason came and caught up with me to run the last bit, it was a nice surprise. when i knew the finish was close, i picked up the pace again. the finish is on the grass across the park from the path we ran on, and as soon as i hit the grass i sprinted in to the arch.
it felt good to speed up, and to know i would be finished in just seconds.
i did it. i ran all 13.1 miles. it was as if i had never been injured. but not only that, i did it much faster that i imagined i might be able to.
266th out of 339. 2:24:08, an 11 minute pace. fantastic.
and we all really did have a great time.
i was up at 520. ate a bowl of oatmeal and a banana for breakfast, gathered the kids and loaded up into the yukon to drive to the race. all we needed to do at the race was to pick up our timing chips and warm up (and get over our nerves.)
i felt good. i stretched out my legs and did a little warm up jog with katie, no pain the whole time. i was excited to get to run again, and to be able to at least start out with katie for the first couple miles.
i prayed for us in the coral before the gun, for a pain free run with quick times. and God answers prayer.
a couple miles into the race, katie i and were hanging out at a 10:15/10:30 pace and feeling great. the temperature was good, fog blocked the hot sun, just a light breeze instead of a nasty headwind, and my leg felt fine- like it was never injured.
the aid stations were so nice to have, especially the farthest one out that was more than three miles from the one before. and it had skittles. i love skittles, but i have never enjoyed them as much as i did at 6.5 miles on saturday. except maybe at 10.5 miles. they were pretty great then too.
at ten miles, i let katie go on ahead. i wanted to turn it down a little, but kept her in my sight through the finish.
i was tired, but in good spirits at ten miles. i knew i could keep running. near 13 jason came and caught up with me to run the last bit, it was a nice surprise. when i knew the finish was close, i picked up the pace again. the finish is on the grass across the park from the path we ran on, and as soon as i hit the grass i sprinted in to the arch.
it felt good to speed up, and to know i would be finished in just seconds.
i did it. i ran all 13.1 miles. it was as if i had never been injured. but not only that, i did it much faster that i imagined i might be able to.
266th out of 339. 2:24:08, an 11 minute pace. fantastic.
and we all really did have a great time.

only 5 to go!
i stepped on the scale this morning and saw that i had gained 147 pounds. :|
just kidding.
kind of.
our scale has a memory setting. i use number 1, jason uses number 2. once in a while when the kids are playing with it they time it just right and mess up our settings. we dont always notice until after the reading shows our current weight- it then shows a gain or loss of whatever the difference is from the previous setting. todays difference was 147.0 pounds. yikes.
so i did some math. last week i weighed 156.4 pounds (after gaining almost 2 pounds), and this morning i weigh 153.2 pounds- a real loss of 3.2 pounds. that feels pretty good. this week i ran again, i lost some weight again... there is a lot going on in our little corner, so it really is nice to have a couple things working in my favor today.
on another note-
i have been reading numbers. if you remember, i started in 1 corinthians and have worked my way to the end of the new testament and back around the beginning. numbers isnt just the story of how many fighting men are in the people if israel, its also the story of the deaths of the people God has trusted to lead the people to the promised land.
i didnt know that God told aaron to go to the top of a particular mountain and there he would die. people talk about what it might be like to know the place and the time... im pretty sure i wouldnt enjoy it. aaron was the high priest (i think) and as such, must remain ceremonially clean at all times. if he were to become unclean, his priestly garments would also be unclean. thats not allowed. his clothes were specially made of fine materials and adorned and could not be discarded or washed like other clothes that were made unclean. my point: aaron couldnt die while wearing his priestly garments or they would be made unclean having touched a dead body.
so moses, aaron, and aarons son all go up the mountain together. aaron removes his clothes and moses places them on eleazer, aarons son, the new high priest. and then aaron dies.
just like that?
im not sure how i feel about that. and even more, once he is dead, moses and especially eleazar cant touch him (or carry his body down the mountain to be buried) or they would become unclean. did they even cover his body with stones? i dont know. but its really interesting to think about the details, and im sure God had it all figured out.

a legacy of athleticism
is that the right word? im not sure, but you get what im going for, right?
jason and i have been talking a lot lately about the difference in our lives. tonight it was about his 7 mile run. i told him, its just 7 miles, youll be fine. he laughed and said what a difference that now we say "just 7 miles." a year ago, that was a killer. his 6 miles were rough last august for his last triathlon, and the farthest id run in recent years (and possibly ever) was when i was running with heidi (was emma around? now i dont remember, but i think so...) and we went 2-4 miles at a time. 7 would have killed me. but not now.
growing up, he played a lot of team sports. he was athletic in high school and in college. i played volley ball for all of jr high and half of high school, and as an early adult i had a pretty active life walking around for shopping or errands in eugene. but neither one of us had active parents. athletics were a part of team sports in school and they stayed with that time in our lives. that wont be the case for our kids.
george and emma, and whatever kiddos are still to come have parents who are intentionally physically active on a regular basis for the purposes of good health, and enjoyment! its not just about loosing weight (thats maybe the spark, or the first draft, but not the whole story, or the coals the keep the fire hot) its about finding something active that we enjoy, and making it an integral part of our daily lives.
we have been doing a lot of studying lately in several different parts of our lives (college classes for jason, run training, injury, weight management and healthy eating for me, bible study together and apart, leadership through role modeling with the teens) and have noticed changes take place over the last year in our attitudes and parenting and so many things. not a very eloquent sentence, i know, but im having a hard time putting a feeling into words. its just been pretty great to make these changes now, and to know that the impact they have on our kids will be a lasting one.
whew. okay, that said, i did level 2 again today. that makes 3 days in a row. its pretty tough, but in a good sort of way. the plan is to do it again in the morning with jason as we start our first week (of 3) of summer. we are testing out a couple new schedules and morning work outs are one of them.

one year
tomorrow morning, around 10, marks exactly one year since i first sat down on the couch and cried out. i sat crossed legged in tears after a hard morning with the kids and feeling so completely lost and sent an email to jason.

im cry-y today. i miss the girl i used to be, and im feeling a little trapped at home, and im frustrated. i know you are super busy, and i have all this extra time at home- but i cant use that time however i want because i have these two little people to schedule and tag along with me. can we sit down and figure out some time for me to have a break, even if its just three or four days a week?
i need you to encourage me, and tell me i am worth the effort because im feeling very low and discouraged. if we can make time for your work outs, and your classes, and changing your habits, then we can make time for mine too, right?
i want to be a better wife for you, and a better mom for our kids, and to do that i need to take better care of myself.
i love you, and could use a hug.

that email was the beginning of a change in my life. i set a goal to loose 65 pounds. i didnt do it by the end of the year, and i didnt do it by my birthday, and one year later im still not there- but i have made a change. today is wednesday, and this morning i weigh 156.4 pounds. no gain, no loss this week, but i have lost 57 pounds in 12 months. i am 8 pounds from my goal and as i work towards it i have changed my focus to running. its not my favorite thing, but two people who have been a great encouragement to me love it and its my turn to support them. jason and katie and i are running a half marathon august 27th in san leandro california.
so how have i changed in the last year? there are the basics, like a general knowledge of food components that i need and need in moderation, or tricks for making delicious (but high calorie low nutrition) foods into foods that are actually GOOD for me. i also dont long to be that girl anymore. ive become this girl who runs! who makes self care a priority, who CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN WITH A KID ON HER BACK!
what a year it has been. cant wait to see the changes in my life, and the lives of those around me over the next year.

leviticus
its been a while since i mentioned what im reading, and thought i should update you all on how its going. i made it through genesis and exodus and leared so much that i didnt know. i had no idea how short some of the classic bible stories i grew up with really are, and how long and drawn out others are. but now im in leviticus.
i usually read while im drinking my coffee or tea and eating breakfast. but leviticus- oy! i just cant read more than a chapter of "take hold of the animal at the entrance of the tabernacle and slaughter it. sprinkle its blood on the horns and seat, and pour the rest of its blood... burn all the fat, including the lobe of the liver..." and everything is repeated at least three times. once when God gives the instruction to moses, once when moses passes the instruction to aaron, and again when moses or aaron carries out the sacrifice.
i understand why its in there. why it happened, why God gave those instructions. we CANNOT do it on our own. we cannot atone for our own sins in a way that is satisfactory. we just dont cut it. and the israelites couldnt either. consider this: two of aarons sons who heard first hand the instructions didnt offer the proper sacrifice and the GLORY OF GOD BURNED THEM UP! the point of the old testament laws? to show us that we NEED A SAVIOR. and boy is that clear.
but does it make easy breakfast reading? oh no. not at all. so im having a hard time getting through leviticus. im in chapter ten now.

self image
i noticed six months ago that the image i had of myself in my head was not accurate. actually, i could not have picked myself out of a crowd. i wanted to be this girl again.
this morning i told jason i needed a break. he starts school on tuesday and has had a couple long nights at work this week. i know that starting tuesday, our time will be stretched thin again and my time off will disappear almost completely. so i am at the flying m. (three times this week, a little excessive, i know, but its felt great.)
while walking from my car into the m i felt like myself. and the image i have of myself feels accurate. i carried my red shoulder bag from guatemala with jane eyre, my compy from jenn, my new real simple, and my wallet inside. im wearing my black boots i bought with katie in california, my first pair of size 8 jeans (that i shopped for with jenn, via text and photo emails), an old navy tee i bought with heidi when i was pregnant with emma, my black sweater that i treated myself to, and the scarf i bought in elko when heidi and i stayed with cassie for a weekend a couple years ago. i am clothed in memories of who i am. i am alone at coffee and feel completely surrounded by people who i care about.
im not even sure this will make sense to any of you (except maybe jenn, who knows the me that was gone for a while) but i feel like im back. and it feels great.

its getting harder
i knew this would happen. weight loss is not always easy. i am down on myself for making poor choices, and unmotivated to make the changes i really need to see more progress. its dreary out. i want to cuddle on the couch with comfort food. i do not want to pay attention to what that food is. (though i have been really pretty good about making my comfort foods better choices, my servings sizes just arent.) couple that with the lack of gym time ive put in, and we see minimal weight loss.
last wednesday november 3, i weighed 179.2. today, november 10, i weigh 178.6 for a loss of 0.6 pounds this week.
on the positive, i have seen continued loss each week.
on the realistic, half a pound isnt going to get me very far very fast.
so changes:
breakfast every day. a banana and cup of greek yogurt with my sort of decaf coffee
big and filling lunch (like 400 calories big) with 1 treat. treat today was another banana, but i have pumpkin and flax cookies too.
small, portion controlled dinner. i will not have seconds, unless it is of my veggie.
when i want a snack, first drink a glass of water. i know i havent been up to par there, because i have had several headaches cured by a big glass of hydrating water the last few weeks.
this is what i had been sticking pretty closely to for several months, and saw positive changes, so i want to get back to that. today has been good.
devotions in the morning with breakfast. i am absolutely aware that without God up front in my life, i cannot loose the weight. i have tried for years, and ive never done it before. thats what is so different this time around. my second try isnt set only on my shoulders, i have a big help if im willing to ask for it each day. and when i dont, i struggle.
gym time minimum of 3 days, for 30 minutes this week. next week, ill up it again. my time with jason at home has been so limited (as in, 10pm -6am most days) that i just dont want to leave when hes here. but if i dont get that time away, i will crave it later when its not available. his test is over, and hes making an effort to be home by 8 so i have time to go to the gym. i need to take advantage of that.
so last night i did, 38 minutes 3.3 miles 450 calories. i know if i keep it up, i will see change.
thats where im at today. this is where i decide to push through and make it work, because the alternative doesnt get my any closer to the girl i want to be, wearing those red dickies.
edit: i did gym tonight 45 minutes 3.86 miles 515 calories

on the letter
i expected the box to arrive on tuesday. i didnt take into consideration that i had mailed it early on saturday. it got there monday.
my dad waited until my mom got home monday night to open the package. he wanted her to open it. she told him that it was for him, she assumed it was a birthday present and that she didnt know anything about it.
he was very drunk.
he opened the box, read the letter, and that was it.
mom told me all of this when she called this afternoon. she casually dropped into the conversation that the box i sent dad had arrived. she also told me that she felt guilty, because she had read the letter. (well, it wasnt her letter to read.)
this morning the bible was gone. mom thinks he may have read the letter again, but doesnt know what he did with the bible. maybe hes reading it? maybe its out of sight out of mind? i dont know.

power
i finished the letter, and i bought my dad a bible today. ive written in it, and marked 1 Corinthians with a photo of emma and i. its the life recovery bible. i asked pastor jim this afternoon what he would recommend, and this was one of them. so i took a deep breath, and followed the nudging of the holy spirit and went out and bought the bible.
please be praying. im going to send out a couple letters to a few people at home asking them to pray as well. i believe God works powerfully through prayer.
Ephesians 3:16-21
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

snacky sweet
it was quite possibly not my best decision to have a snacky sweet evening the night before i weigh. but, true to my new habits, when i want to eat something, i eat it. i just make the best choice possible about it.
so tonight i had broccoli and cheese soup with baked cheese crackers for dinner. (and a few cookies here and there, but ill tell you about those later.) then some popcorn while watching biggest looser, and for dessert, hot chocolate ice cream. mmm. :) so we will see what i weigh in the morning, but even if i (for the first time in 14 weeks) gain weight, my world will not fall apart.
now about those cookies. i made gingersnaps. but i fudged them. i substituted 3/4 of the sugar with splenda, and added milled flax. i should have substituted some of the four with the flax instead of just adding it (there was too much flour that way i think) but they turned out really good. and, they have way less calories and lots more nutritional value than the originals. yum.
one more change this week. on sunday at church i began to feel very convicted about what we are studying in sunday school. we are talking about witnessing, and using the opportunities that God gives us. i started feeling like i dont have the same chances others do to run into people and share. well, on sunday i was hit like a brick with the fact that i havent shared how my faith has saved me, with my dad. so i am writing him a letter. i will mail it by the end of the week. i dont know what ill say, or how it will be received, but thats not really up to me. so im trusting God, following his urging, and writing a letter.
